The Problem

I don't know about you but I have always been troubled by the trouble limes are to deal with. They go bad pretty quickly (though they will outlast an avocado) and even if you manage to start cutting one before that, it feels like a lot of hassle (and citrus in your paper cuts) for the pleasure of a mild improvement to your beverage.

And that's just at home - abroad (or just outside your house) you have to be concerned about bacteria and cleanliness in your delicious garnishes that can create a real stressor for the citrus fan.

The Solution

Thank goodness the fine folks over at True Citrus Co pointed their clever culinary engineering resources at this problem and came up with an incredibly convenient (and durable) solution: crystalized lime packets! (also available in lemon)

Essentially its a sugar packet - but for your preferred citrus treat. The packet is foil-lined (to reduce moisture entering and causing clumping) and is equivalent to a single wedge.

1 Packet = Taste of 1 Wedge

There's no calories or sugar and the ingredients are simple: Crystallized Lime  [Citric Acid, Lime Oil, Lime Juice] making it pretty much exactly the same (health and flavor-wise) as using a wedge of Lime! Not to mention you get the full benefit without worrying if you can squeeze any more out of the wedge, which always seems to still retain about 50% of the flavor you expected.

The packets are quite affordable (you can buy 100 for about $9 on Amazon) and have a wide variety of uses. My personal preference is paired with a cherry flavored bubly - which turns a lightly flavored seltzer beverage into a robust blend of cherry and lime which refreshes and quenches my thirst.

True Lime packets are great for cooking as well and they provided a large online cookbook of recipes https://www.truelemon.com/pages/recipes though I think you can simply substitute 1 packet per wedge any recipe would call for.

I strongly recommend the True Lime packet (and/or lemon as the need arises) in lieu of an actual lemon or lime wedge. Plus they travel well in a purse or vehicle - waiting for the right moment to spice up a beverage or taco.

Bon Appetit!
